Working on the Front Garden Plot

There are 7 weeks and 4 days to go until our average last frost date, and before you know it, it will be time to plant things in the ground. The front garden plot needs some work. If you recall, here is where we left off:

This is where the strawberry tree used to be. It’s roughly 15’x15′. I am planning to make four 4’x 4′ beds separated by perpendicular 2-foot paths like so:

I may or may not put a bean trellis in the center – to be determined. I don’t want the beds to be too big. I need to be able to reach all the way to the center of the beds to weed without having to step into the beds. I’m thinking I’ll put tomatoes in one bed, peppers and basil in another bed, peas (and beans?) in the third bed, and onions in the last bed. Or something like that. I also need to find space for squash (zucchini, cucumbers, and winter squash) and dill.

I wanted to demarcate the four plots somehow, and we had a lot of bricks on hand.

I could line the outside perimeter of the beds with bricks, but I don’t know if it’s necessary and I don’t know if I’d like the way that would look. I will also probably want to put fencing of some sort around the perimeter to keep out the rabbits.
