The End of the Deck (or a New Beginning)

The back deck is being replaced.

When I got home from work yesterday, Dad said, “A couple of guys are coming tomorrow to start taking the deck apart.” The deck is in rough shape and has needed to be replaced for quite a while now. I just wasn’t expecting it to happen…today.

The deck is my favorite part of this house. When I’m out there, I feel like I’m in a tree house with the oak tree so close by.

It’s also valuable garden space. I have pots of parsley and mint on the porch, right off the kitchen, which is so convenient.

It also provides a sheltered space for hardening off seedlings and acts as summer camp for my houseplants.

It will take quite a while to deconstruct the deck and reconstruct a new deck, so I’m preparing myself for a long deck-less summer. I will miss it.

  1. OH, wow, that’s exciting! It’ll be a hassle living through the replacement, but I’m sure you’ll love it when it’s done. Summer camp will need to temporarily relocate.
