Weeds and Slugs

The garden is looking a little sad right now. Too many weeds and too many slugs!

I had been hoping that things would bounce back once our temps warm up a bit (we’re still stuck in the low 60s), but really I was just looking for excuses to avoid spending time in the garden. It’s just so depressing!

May Bouquet #3

This week’s bouquet is two kinds of rhododendron and foliage from an andromeda.

I’m on a bouquet kick. Here the latest bouquet:

I picked rhododendron, mock orange, dandelions, and bluebells.

I might turn this into a weekly thing. It might be neat to look back on a year’s collection of bouquets to see what flowers or foliage I can find in the yard any given week.

Transplanting Zinnias

I finally transplanted the zinnia starts into the Flower Garden this weekend.

They’ve been sitting out in this spot for over a week now, so they’re well acclimated to the conditions.

Rhododendron (and Azalea) Tour

It’s peak rhody season! I took a walk around the neighborhood yesterday specifically looking for rhododendrons.

Potting Up the Olive Tree

We were planning to plant the olive tree this spring….

…but we can’t decide where to plant it. I have one idea; my dad has another idea; neither of us likes the other’s idea. So we’re at a standstill.

Waiting For Things To Grow

Despite being in Portland for the weekend, it has been a pretty quiet weekend garden-wise.

I’ve planted or sowed almost everything that needs planting or sowing at this time and we’re experiencing some “Junuary” weather (January-like weather in June – or May in this case. Summer doesn’t really get going until July 4th, traditionally, in the PNW), so things are slow to grow.
